Jennifer Stanley, Community Relations Specialist, will be our guest speaker along with a leading expert in Diabetes. Jennifer will update us with the progress of the new Northside Hospital and what Cherokee Country residents can expect. Learn more below about Diabetes below: Diabetes is a chronic illness and requires patients to take an active role in controlling the disease. This includes informed management of food intake, exercise and stress, as well as the proper administration of blood glucose testing and anti-diabetes medications.

Accredited by the American Diabetes Association, Northside Hospital’s Comprehensive Outpatient Diabetes Education Program is designed to give you the information, support and care you need to manage your illness and live a healthy, rewarding life. Our specially trained and board-certified nurses, registered dietitians and educators work with you to adapt an individualized self-care plan that incorporates eating habits, meal planning preferences and any medical conditions.

Northside’s Outpatient Diabetes Education Program is recommended for newly diagnosed patients as well as those whose diabetes control needs improvement. The Program is available on an individual basis or in small group settings and is designed for individuals with: Type 1 – Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus. Type 2 – Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus Diabetes Prevention, Pre Diabetes, Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome (by making lifestyle changes at these early stages, many patients can prevent Type 2 Diabetes). PCOS– Women of child-bearing age who have Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome. Gestational Diabetes – Women who have diabetes during pregnancy. The program also is designed for people who want information, motivation or intensive management, as well as those who want to prevent, detect and treat complications related to diabetes.
